A space to chill in

A note:

The Silent Sanctuary Space is not wheelchair accessible.

One of the things I’ve learned since picking up the Eroticon torch with Molly and Michael is that there are many different things that can make or break someone’s weekend. Of course we want to make sure that everyone’s well fed at lunchtime, and they’ve got a great line-up of talks and workshops to attend, lovely sponsors to meet, great swag for goodie bags… but there are lots of other needs that different people have, and where possible we’d like to be able to cater to them.

Last year we got some feedback from attendees who had health conditions that meant they’d really appreciate a quiet rest space. We have break-out areas of course for people to hang out in, but some people requested a separate room, where they could sit or lie down in silence for a short while to recuperate.

Thanks to our helpful venue and the kind support of Aly from Hot Octopuss, who has ME/CFS and has kindly offered to guide us in what to arrange, we’re going to have an allocated ‘Silent Sanctuary’ – a room for those who need to take a bit of a rest somewhere silent.

Think that might be you?

If this is something that would benefit you, or you think you’d like to make use of during the conference, please get in touch with us so that we can ask you about your needs. We’ll be able to provide the space, and will bring some cushions/blankets etc to make sure there’s something to lie down on, but we’d like to make sure that your needs are taken into account if this is something you’d like to use during the weekend.

What it is:

  • A silent rest space for those with physical and mental health issues who might need a quiet space to rest during the conference
  • An empty room, just off one of the main corridors, where you can recuperate if you need to

What it isn’t:

  • A room open to everyone to blog/chat/mingle – please come to the break-out area for that!
  • Fancy! We’re limited by transport and budget as to what we can provide in that room, so feel free to bring a yoga mat if you’d like to lie down. And if you contact us before the conference we can take your needs into account when we’re working out what to bring along with us.
  • Wheelchair accessible

Contact info@eroticon.co if you’d like to join the email list to collaborate with Aly and others on what you might need from the room.

Sounds a great idea. I’ll only need to use the breakout areas, but wanted to let you know I’d read your post. Thanks for organising.
