Eat the trolls – how to deal with online feedback. Girl on the Net

No matter how many nice comments you get, that single miserable one can totally
destroy your day. ‘Block and ignore’ doesn’t always cut it, so here are some worst-case scenarios,
and strategies to deal with them. The first half of this talk will cover the basic legal issues you need
to be aware of online such as libel and malicious communication. The second half covers broader
issues around moderation and debate which bloggers + writers can explore for themselves. Helping
them build a moderation strategy they’re comfortable with, and giving them tools and strategies to
minimise the impact of the worst-case scenarios on their traffic as well as their mental health.

Humiliation and degradation as a form of sexual arousal - Kerry Stott

An exploration into why we find humiliation and degradation both abhorrent and attractive.

What it is about this practice that is enticing.

The different types of degradation play there is from name calling, face slapping, feminisation, obectification and the different psychological effects they can have.

In addition to this it is about how to make this type of play safe through aftercare.

Throughout the whole presentation there is a focus on how to convey specific POV that the writer want to express to the reader and how they want their reader to feel.

Empower yourself through DIY porn - Pandora Blake

Have you ever watched porn and wanted to give it a try – or thought you could do better? Perhaps you’ve been turned off by the predictable offerings of mainstream porn – or perhaps you’ve struggled to find porn that reflects your political values? The porn industry has traditionally been tailored to the presumed desires of straight cisgender men, but it doesn’t have to be this way. Porn can be queer, woman-positive, trans-positive, fat-positive, age-positive and ethnically diverse. Porn can depict real world sex between genuine lovers, or it can express your wildest fantasies. Porn can be respectful, sincere, intimate, romantic, sensual, artistic, and everything it’s reputed not to be … But for porn like this to exist, someone has to make it.

Perhaps that someone is you.

Expect to discuss your motivations for making your own porn, any anxieties or obstacles that need to be considered, and why it can be an empowering choice. You’ll learn what you’ll need to get started shooting your own clips to sell online (hint: it doesn’t have to include an expensive camera or technical kit!). We’ll discuss sets and lighting tips, ideas for things to do on camera other than the obvious, an introduction to video editing software, and how to distribute your work.

Just another source of conflict: writing disability in erotica Charlie Powell

An interactive session exploring the representations of disability in erotica. Looking at successful representations in mainstream culture, brainstorming, discussion and time to explore the ideas in writing.

Dirty Talk: how to write better audio erotica - Jonathan Keith

Audio erotica is still in its infancy, and many writers are unaware of the unique opportunities the medium offers. With examples and audience discussion, I want to show writers how to write more effectively, whether they’re writing new work or adapting existing material… how to write audio sex right.

The Art of Musing - Tabitha Rayne

The first 45 minute session will be a life drawing class – no experience or artistic ability required; this is for fun and idea stimulation. While we will be looking at technique – using light and shade etc., it will be slightly different from a normal life drawing class as we will be talking about idea generation and the feelings that the artist/writer and muse/model relationship conjures.

The second 45 minutes will be all about taking the thoughts and experiences we have explored and applying them to a piece of writing. What is the model feeling under this scrutiny? What is the writer/artist feeling through this intensity? How can we capture this and apply it to our writing? I hope this will inspire a slightly different way of thinking about characters.

11:30– 12:15

Musically kinked - Kay Jaybee

A writing workshop to help kick start new ideas, or free up ideas that you’ve in your mind but can’t ‘get out’, using song lyrics.

The session would have a brief intro followed by 3 short writing tasks inspired by listening to 3 very different types of popular lyrics.

After listening to each musical snippet- the group would be set 5 minute writing challenges, based on the mood of the music and a given erotic genre, e.g., romance/BDSM/Steampunk.

The impact of the new UK porn laws - Pandora Blake

This talk will look at the AVMS regulations – exactly what is banned in the UK, who is affected and who isn’t. We will discuss the fall-out of the new legislation and the impact it has had on the UK porn industry – who has been closed down, who has appealed, and the knock-on effects to porn performers. Learn about the various ways UK porn supporters have fought the new laws, the acts of resistance and protest that have arisen over the 18 months since the rules changed. Come prepared to learn about some complex nuances of UK case law and EU legislation, as we discuss how the AVMS regulations came about – and whether they are legitimate.

As of January 1 2016, the video-on-demand regulator ATVOD has been folded, and government body Ofcom have taken over sole regulatory responsibility. What does this mean for the future of UK porn?

How to write about sex and not make it sound like a To Do List. - Hyacinth Jones

Too often the recounting of a real life sexual encounter can fall into a list of things that
happened. This session will help you identify ways to make it a literary experience for
your readers.
For example, instead of “We removed our clothes and then we kissed,” you’ll hopefully
learn how to pull from real life, art,and movement and illustrate the scene with more
depth and nuance.
Attendees will learn how to dip into a personal experience – possibly unrelated to sex –
to better illustrate it in a meaningful way.

Consent is sexy! A workshop for erotica writers - Milena Popova / Charlie Hale

From 50 Shades to Blurred Lines, sexual consent (or the lack of it) has gained prominence in public discourse and popular culture, and erotica is often cited as a genre where consent issues abound. But is that true? This workshop will showcase the good, the bad and the ugly when it comes to consent in erotic fiction and give writers practical tips and tools for writing good consent, whether you’re writing a racy romance or hardcore kink, vanilla het sex or pansexual queer orgies.

We will look at how you can write consent negotiation between your characters in a way that’s sexy not just for contract lawyers. We’ll also explore how power differentials between characters (e.g. gender, age, race, class and social status) may affect meaningful sexual consent, and how to work with and around them in ways that are hot rather than fetishising. We’ll cover issues of dubious consent, writing outright rape, and consensual non-consent. We’ll give you a safe space to think and talk through any questions you may have on writing good consent, and set you up to write the sexiest consent and most consensual sex ever!

Letting the world prompt your smut - Jilly Boyd

A writing workshop/inspiration session in which participants are taken through various ways of using prompts (anything from certain words to items to the various names of those pretty Pantone paints…)to fuel the flames of a new story. Session would tackle topics such as writer’s block, how to open your eyes and ears in search of inspiration – because inspiration is often where you least expect it to be – and how to interpret a prompt when given one (I’ll give a short example of a story I wrote where the prompt was the name of a lipstick).

Then, to round off, participants will choose one or more of the items/words I’ll be giving them and will hopefully be inspired to start doing some writing there and then.
